Gloria Harper Obituary

Gloria M. Harper, 97, Moline, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline, to have masses said.

 

Gloria Marie Filichia was born on January 27, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Rose Filichia. She married Edmond Elmer Harper on February 27, 1943 in Chicago. He died in 1977. Gloria worked as a housekeeper for Viking Village Resort, Washington Island, WI. She was a devout Christian woman, volunteering at St. Mary's Moline, in the Adult Choir, Resurrection Choir, Altar and Rosary Society, and the Heavenly Dusters. She was a prayerful member of the Merciful Legion of Little Souls, Cenacles of the Marian Movement of Priests, and Helpers of God's Precious Infants. She was an excellent cook and made an amazing chicken soup. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and Bulls fan.

 

Survivors include her children, Diane Harper, Margie Bleuer, both of Davenport, Ginny and Gary Clauson, Colona, Ed and Lori Harper, Cornwall on Hudson, NY and Greg Harper (Lisa Ramirez), Davenport, grandchildren, Doreen (Rodney) Underwood, Brian (Leslie) Bleuer, Liz (Joe) Ehrecke, Mark (Kate) Bleuer, Jennifer (Dan) Walker, Becky Carpenter, Chad (Maggie) Clauson, Hillary Harper Neal (Steven Hunt) and Emily (Kyle) Tigges, great-grandchildren, John, Gavin, Alec, Isabella, Aidan, Ella, Marlee, Maizy, Payton, Anabella, Alexa, Charlie, Matthew, Caleb, Liam “Shep”, Eli, Luke, Finn, Kellan and Rhys, brother, Thomas (Nancy) Filichia, Gilbert, AZ, “adopted daughter”, Cheryl Bridgewater, Davenport, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son and daughter-in-law, John and Becky Harper, and siblings (spouses), Vincent (Belle) Filichia, Annette (Joseph) Zambole and Virginia (Don) Arcari, and Jo Coda who she was caregiver to for 27 years.

 

The family would like to thank, Sandy Jacobsen, Renee Bleuer, Moira DePasquale and Mickie Burton as well as Unity Point's Palliative care and Hospice personnel for the excellent care.

The family prays, as Gloria still will, for all the lives she has touched and that her ministry of helping others will ignite others to do the same.
