Howard W. Mason, 83 of Hampton, IL passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Genesis East in Davenport, IA.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church, Moline.

Howard was born November 1, 1937 in Arcadia, IL, a son of Floyd and Louise (Renchler) Mason. He graduated from Arenzville High School in Arenzville, Illinois in 1956 and later attended Black Hawk College in Moline. He married Millie Powell on June 12, 1960 in Versailles, IL. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 5, 1961 proudly serving his country in Northern Greece until his honorable discharge on December 17, 1962. He worked at the John Deere Parts Depot in East Moline for 29 and a half years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed carving eagles out of black walnuts, collecting hammers and fishing. He also loved nature photography. Howard loved to dress up as Santa Claus the entire month of December to spread cheer to the children of Hampton. Howard was a member of Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church in Moline for over 25 years. Also, he was a member of the Moline American Legion Post #246, and UAW Union #1710.

He is survived by two children: Howard Andrew (Peggy) Mason of Hampton and Tiffany (Bill) Raes of Geneseo; 6-grandchildren: Becca (Adam) Proehl of Orion, Dustin (Brittany) Raes of Mason City, IA, Kaitlyn (Anthony) Abbey of Colona, Tori Mason of Rock Island, Cody and Jordan Raes both of Geneseo; 6-great-grandchildren; sister: Melba (Carl) Langhans of Emerson, GA; brothers: Walter (Bernadine) Mason of Jacksonville, IL and Donald (Susan) Mason of Colona; a brother-in-law: Norman (Kay) Cloyes of Morton, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie, his parents, and a sister, Lecretia Cloyes.
