Obituary

Funeral services for Adela "Olivia" Lopez, 88, of East Moline, IL, will be 10 AM Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Monday, February 24, 2025, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. Mrs. Lopez passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Hospital, Davenport, IA.

Olivia Leon was born June 3, 1936, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Julian and Margarita (Reeves) Leon. She married Peter Lopez, September 26, 1959, in Kewanee. He passed away April 25, 2010.

Olivia worked for the Rock Island Argus and the Daily Dispatch. She enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with luncheons, bingo at her parish. She enjoyed every aspect of sewing from mending, altering, making clothes including helping her husband with upholstery. Earned a sewing trophy in high school. Olivia enjoyed visiting with all her neighbors. She thoroughly enjoyed going to her son's parishes for weekly visits a few times of the year. Enjoying daily masses with her son and with his parisioner ladies who kept her busy. She enjoyed working outside gardening, flowers, but most of all loved immensely spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her notes to her children about her funeral arrangements. She said "When people say Olivia has died. She wants us to know, She is more alive then ever. She is not sad for what she lost. She is happy to have what she had."

Survivors include her children, Joseph Lopez, Davenport, IA, Julie Lopez, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Marie (Jerry) Schadel Jr., Donahue, IA; grandchildren, Miguel Lopez, Marisa Lopez, Ashley (Stephen) Schaecher, Kenneth Kinnan III, Beca (Tyus) Harvey, Jeremy, Jacob, Jerry III and Juliana Schadel; great grandchildren, Adam, Aiden, Aurora Schaecher; Iyla, Rosalina Harvey; Noah, Isabella, Sophia, Joslyn, Peter, Jacob, Grayson, Gabriel Schadel; sister, Connie Howell, Galesburg, IL; and sister-in-law, Elsie Leon, Kewanee IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Fr. Bruce Lopez; sister, Anita Martinez, and brothers, Richard and Phillip Leon.

Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors, People with Special Needs, St. Anne's Music and Alleman High School.
