Aileen was born on June 18, 1920 in Rural Geneseo at the farm home of her parents, Florent and Amelia Bekaert. By todays standards, Aileen worked hard as a child, having to help on the family farm. She milked dairy cows, hitched horses for field work, picked corn by hand plus countless chores including helping her mother churn butter and preserve food for the family.
Aileen married Paul Braeckevelt on may 24, 1940. She devoted her life and love to her husband and their three children: Richard (firstborn), Beverly (typical middle kid), and Patricia (forever the little one). Aileen was a Den mother and 4-H leader. She volunteered for the Red Cross blood drive for many years, was member of Henry County Homemakers Extension, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Colona. She sewed baptismal bibs for the church and knitted baby hats for the newborns at Genesis Hospital, Illini Campus. She was an exceptionally skilled quilter.
Mom, your legacy is in the paths you helped us follow, and the unfailing love from your soft and gentle heart. With a lump in our throats, and tears in our eyes, we whisper "We love you mom!"
Children, Richard (Joyce) Braeckevelt, Beverly (William) Buckley, and Patricia (James) Bond.
Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, brother, step-sister and step-brother.
