Obituary

Funeral services for Albert "Al" DeWulf, 86, of Park Vista, East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-400 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. DeWulf died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at OSF Hospital, Peoria, IL. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to East Moline American Legion Post 227. Al was born September 13, 1927 in Moline, IL, the son of Emiel and Margaret VanHoutte DeWulf. He married Lillian Klingborg May 10, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. She died April 26, 2012. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline in 1982, after 35 years of service. Al served in the United States Army from the age of 18-20. Upon discharge, he was employed at John Deere Harvester as a tool & die repairman. He retired after 35 years at the age of 55 as a Supervisor. During the 50's and 60's he played for several fast pitch softball teams (including the Disco Bombers) in the Quad City Area. During that time he maintained one of the highest batting averages. He often told stories of his trips to World tournaments for fast pitch softball including one World tournament championship. During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren), going to auctions, dining out, and watching all Chicago sports teams. He was a die-hard Cubs fan. One of his favorite days was on his 80th birthday at Wrigley Field, watching the Cubs and enjoying a brat! His memory will live on in the many lives of those he touched with his stories, humor, and sincere kindness. Survivors include his daughters, Ana Hill, Oak Park, IL and Lisa (Gary) Randolph, Silvis, IL; grandchildren, Dustan, Andrew, Tyler, Sam, Charlie, and Grace; sister, Patricia (Barry) Davison, Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents.
