Obituary

Albert J. Dumolien, 91, East Moline, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 10 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Albert was born on December 22, 1922 in East Moline, the son of Cyriel and Eliza Dumolien. He married Della D. DiIulio on November 11, 1944 at St. Anne Catholic Church East Moline. He remained a life-long member of St. Anne and resident of East Moline. In 1981 Albert retired with 35 years of service from the former International Harvester Works, East Moline. He worked in the Engineering Department as a machinist and sheet metal layout expert along with engineers and fellow UAW skilled craftsmen in the design and development of combine harvesting equipment. Following graduation from East Moline High school Albert enlisted in the US Army Air Force on January 14, 1942. As Sargent he was the Crew Chief leader of maintenance and operations of B24 Heavy Bombers and B29 Super-fort Bombers. He was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945. Albert was a member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227. Albert served his family as a faithful husband and loving father. His innate mechanical knowledge and carpentry skills were sought by many. He was always willing to share his time and talent to help his children, siblings, in-laws and friends without question or expectation of payment. Albert's honest, kind and gentle personality made him a pleasure to have in your company. He was respected by all. His simple humble style and 91 years of life experience serves as an amazing example of what it means to be a truly great person. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Della, sons(spouses), Thomas (Kay) Dumolien, Milan, Anthony Dumolien, Colona and William (Marilyn) Dumolien, Davenport, ten grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Julius and Frank, sisters Madeline and Mary.
