Funeral services for Albert A. Gelande, 82, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:00PM. Mr. Gelande passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009, at home in his sleep, after a brief battle with cancer. Memorials may be made to the family. Al was born May 18, 1927 in Moline, IL, the son of Cyriel and Irma (DeTombe) Gelande. He married Frances Van Houtte September 6, 1947 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona, IL. She died March 30, 1998. Al retired from John Deere Parts Distribution Center, Milan, after 30 years of service. He was a sports fanatic and enjoyed going on the casinos. He loved his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include: his daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Frank Kowalik of Milan, IL, Kathryn Ruiz of Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nelda Gelande of Dover, TN; 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Stella Lampo of Silvis, IL.
