Funeral services for Albert Joseph Van Hecke Jr., 81, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00PM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time Friday at the church. Mr. Van Hecke died Monday, July 1, 2013 at his daughter's home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or to the Belgium Cultural Center Scholarship Fund. Al was born December 23, 1931 in Moline, IL, the son of Albert and Clara Van Landuit Van Hecke Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He received his Masters Degree from Western Illinois University. He married Lynn Westcott in 1964. From this union they had two daughters. They later divorced. He later married Barb (Faur) Cirivello. They later divorced. Al had been a teacher in District 37. He had taught at several schools in the area, retiring from Hillcrest Elementary and Bowlesburg Elementary Schools in 1987. He enjoyed the outdoors. He had been an active golfer, boater, and snow skier. He had been a member of the Belgium Cultural Center. Survivors include his daughters, Sara (Blake) Higgins, Tulsa, OK, and Lisa (Brian) VanderBleek, East Moline; stepchildren, Jill Cirivello, Pleasant Valley, IA, and Steve Cirivello Santa Anna, CA; grandchildren, Blakeley, Lilli, and Alecsander; step grandchildren, Laura, Renee, Ryan, Amelia, and Elizabeth; step great grandchildren, Trevor, Scarlet, Booker, Elysa, Peyton, and Carter; sisters, Joan (Alfred) DeCap, Hillsdale, IL, Theresa (Bob) Bailey, East Moline, Catherine Van Hecke (Sam Rice), East Moline, and Mary Jo DeLillie, Lake in the Hills, IL; brothers, Arthur (Linda)Van Hecke, East Moline and Michael (Ros) Van Hecke, St. Louis, MO; companion and ex-wife, Barb Van Hecke, East Moline.
