Mr. Van Auwelaer died Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Memorials may be made to Children's Therapy Center, Moline or Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, East Moline. Albert was born May 7, 1920 in East Moline, the son of Joseph and Mathilda Modde Van Auwelaer. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School and United Township High School, both of East Moline. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Juliana G. Laisnez May 17, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. For over forty years Albert worked as a senior design engineer at John Deere Spreader Works, East Moline, Industrial Equipment Division, Moline, and Plow Planter Works, Moline, retiring in 1982. Among his hobbies were rolle bolle, stamp collecting, and watching his favorite teams: the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini. He participated in rolle bolle at the East End Bolders Club, Moline, and was a member of the Hand in Hand Rolle Bolle club. Albert had designed and helped develop the rolle bolle courts at Empire Park, East Moline. Most important to Albert was his family. He was lovingly devoted to his wife of 66 years, and a caring and wise role model for his children and grandchildren. He was always eager to help his family and friends, always willing to offer his time, assistance, and support. He never ran out of hugs to give. His quiet and kind disposition was an inspiration to others. Albert will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but the impact he made in their lives will remain forever.
