Funeral services for Alfreda A. Arvanis, 86, of East Moline, IL, will be 11 AM Monday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 2-5PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion (Prayer) service will be held at 5PM. Additional visitation will be from 10:30 AM until service time at the church on Monday. Mrs. Arvanis died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Alfreda Wendell was born January 29, 1925 in Moline, the daughter of Alfred and Blanche (Thompson) Wendell. She married Harry V. Arvanis July 5, 1942 in Moline. He died December 1, 2010. Alfreda was an accomplished ceramics artist. She owned and operated Hobby House Ceramics in East Moline for over 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, bowling and square dancing as well as traveling with her husband. Survivors include her sons, Harry (Linda) Arvanis of East Moline, John (Karen) Arvanis of Port Byron, IL, Sam (Virginia) Arvanis of Romeoville, IL; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren.
