IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice
Dohogne
May 8, 1927 – September 13, 2015
Alice L. Dohogne, 88, of East Moline, went home to the Lord on September 13, 2015. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her three sons. Alice Leona Poelvoorde was born on May 8, 1927 to August and Leontina (Vindevogel) Poelvoorde. She attended St. Mary Catholic School in East Moline and graduated from The Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport. Alice married the love of her life, William C. Dohogne, on September 14, 1946. She worked as a teller at State Bank in East Moline. Because she was bilingual, she was of great service to the Belgian community. In 1956, she and her husband purchased her parents' business, Rock River Dairy, which they owned until its closing in 1969. She returned to the bank in later years; she worked also as a bookkeeper at Travel World. After retirement, she worked part-time at Side Door Antiques. She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Alice's greatest joy was spending time with her four granddaughters. Walking the floor with a crying baby, playing with dolls, being a beauty salon customer, blowing bubbles, pitching to an eager batter - Grandma did it all with a smile. She was always there with advice, a helping hand and an abundant dose of good humor. Alice loved spending time with family, which often meant that she could indulge in another passion: cooking. The love and skill that she put into delicious and bountiful holiday meals as well as signature dishes was a gift to the family and friends who were fortunate enough to sit at her table. Alice is survived by her three sons and their families: John and Diane Dohogne, Waukesha, Wisconsin and their daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Brian Draghicchio; William J. and Julie Dohogne, East Moline, and their daughter, Katie; Patrick and Shawn Dohogne, Hartland, Wisconsin, and their daughters, Mary and Madeline. She is survived by her sister, Mary Poelvoorde, Silvis; sister-in-law and special friend, Rose VanDeWiele, Moline; sister-in-law Shirley Baker, Waterloo, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special family friends Raymond Jr. and Joanne Schatteman, Delores and Jack Bell, Rita Schatteman, Carol and Bernard Klauer; as well as dear friends Bud and Mary Jo Shay and Diana and Dan Soots. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, August and Leontina; her husband, Bill; her niece, Theresa Henry; and her brother, Andrew Poelvoorde. There will be a visitation at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, from 5 - 7 on Tuesday, September 15. On Wednesday, September 16, there will be a visitation at Christ the King Church, Moline, at 10:00, followed by a celebration of Catholic Mass at 11:00. Burial will be at St Mary Cemetery, East Moline. A luncheon will follow in the St. Francis Hall at Christ the King. The family would like to extend heartfelt thank yous to: Dr. Thomas Ade and his staff for Alice's longtime care; as well as to the staffs of Illini Genesis Hospital, Genesis Hospice, Illini Restorative Care, Crosstown Square, and Drs. Mostafa and Khalafallah. Their outstanding and dedicated compassion and care in the last months of her life made difficult times and hard decisions easier to bear. Memorials may be made to ARC of the Quad City Area or to your favorite children's charity.
