Funeral services for Alice M. Gallens, 91, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:30AM Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Thursday (today) at the funeral home, where a rosary will recited at 3:30. Mrs. Gallens died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Good Samaritan, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Monsignor Cleary Endowment Fund. Alice Van Besien was born March 8, 1920 in Jesup, IA, the daughter of Julius and Elizabeth VerMeersch Van Besien. She married Richard Gallens August 11, 1945 in East Moline. He died July 8, 1980. She had worked at both campuses at UTHS in East Moline. She had been past president of the East Moline VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2056, and member of the VFW Past Presidents Club. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and quilting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors include her son, Gary (Connie) Gallens of Geneseo; grandchildren, Richard (Rebekah) Gallens and Jennifer Gallens; great-grandchildren, Kyler and Bridget Gallens; sister, Bernice Ulczyski of Fort Meyers, FL.
