Funeral services for Alice M. Hill, 88, East Moline, are 10:00 AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Stroke Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231. Alice Hill died Monday, April 20, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. She was born September 3, 1920 in East Moline, Il, the daughter of Archie K. and Alida (Coussens) Van den Berghe. She married Odell Walter Hill on June 20, 1941 at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. Alice's life was full. Upon graduation from high school, she worked as a telephone operator. Later she worked with her father in his insurance business. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed learning more about sewing, knitting, crocheting by taking many classes at Blackhawk College. She enjoyed creating new items of clothing while with her friends during their sewing club gatherings. Throughout her entire life she was very active in St. Mary's Church. She assisted with the hot lunch program for the children at St. Mary's School during her children's and grandchildren's school years. She worked at the election polls for several years. In addition, she was a volunteer at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus for thirty plus years where she accumulated more than 5000 volunteer hours of service. She loved her family very much and she enjoyed her many friends. She will be missed by all. Those left to honor her memory include her children and spouses - Kathleen Roberson, Rolla, MO, Patricia and Lawrence Fetter, Ipswich, SD, Thomas and Gail Hill, Bartlett, IL, Gerald and Joyce Hill, East Moline, IL, Richard and Peggy Hill, East Moline, IL; nine grandchildren - David, Anne, Karen, David, Aimee, Robert, Amy, Marcia, and Richard; three great grandchildren - Dell, Zoe and Wynne; and two sisters and spouse - Helen Kerckhove, East Moline, Il and Agnes and Richard Gainey, Torrence, CA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Odell, her parents, her brother and spouse, Henry and Goldwyn Van den Berghe, her brother-in-law, Marcel Kerckhove and her niece, Karen Kerckhove. The family would like to thank everyone who cared for her at Illini for their wonderful care and support.
