Funeral services for Alice E. Poling, 85, Moline are 11 AM Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services at the church. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline is assisting the family with arrangements. Alice died Wednesday at her home. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a college scholarship fund for her great grand-children. Alice Verslype was born February 19, 1925 in East Moline, the daughter of Leon and Zulma (Van Steenkiste) Verslype. She married Richard J. Van Belle Sr. in 1942, he died while fighting in WWII. She married Archie Roets and together raised her 2 sons. She later married Virgil Poling. Alice had worked as a waitress in her early years at the Moline Viking Club, the Moline American Legion and at the Ships Wheel, East Moline. She later worked in the shipping department at the Rock Island Arsenal until she retired in 1987. Alice had been an active volunteer at the Moline American Legion Post 246. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law; Richard and Diane Van Bell, East Moline and Greg and Shari Roets, Fort Calhoun, NE, Grandchildren (spouses); Marc (Debbie) VanBell, Chad (Jodi) VanBell, Amber (Christopher) Thomas and John Roets, great grandchildren; Caroline and Benjamin Van Bell, Sarah and Jenna Van Bell, and Amelia and Nolan Thomas, and sisters (brothers-in-law); Margaret and George Collins, East Moline and Mary (Bill) Dunlop, Fort Myers, FL. and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by 2 sisters.
