Funeral services for Alvin J. Hoffman, 81, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Mr. Hoffman died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, where he had been a member. Al was born January 19, 1929 in Moline, IL, the son of Alvin L. and Elsie Mertz Hoffman. He served in the US Naval Reserves. He married Geraldine DeFrates August 5, 1950 in East Moline. She passed away October 24, 1999. Al was a member of UAW Local 81. He retired from the former Silvis John Deere Foundry in 1992 after 27 years of service. He had been an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and had bowled for decades with the Knights of Columbus Forester League. Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca A. Hoffman of Jacksonville, FL; sons, Daniel J. (Patricia) Hoffman of Milan, IL, James A. Hoffman of East Moline, Jerry L. (Teresa) Hoffman of Silvis, IL, David L Hoffman of Moline, IL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; sister, Donna Dybdal of Phoenix, AZ .
