Funeral services for Angelo J "Joe" Mendoza 92, of East Moline, IL, will be 10 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. The burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be 2-5 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1 PM. Mr. Mendoza passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Angelo was born on May 31, 1932, in Moline, IL, the son of Demetrio and Juanita Mata Mendoza. He served in the US Army as a Telecommunications Lineman during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged in 1953, he dated the love of his life and future wife Pauline Ponciano. They exchanged vows on August 18, 1956, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. After 58 yrs. of marriage his wife Pauline was called home by the Lord on March 21, 2015.
Angelo worked part time at Buddy "L" Toys in East Moline and retired from
Oscar Mayer in 1994 after a 40-year career. He was also an avid Cubs, Bears, and Bulls fan. He looked forward to his monthly Oscar Mayer retirement breakfast reunions where he and his former work buddies would reminisce about their work experiences and old times.
Angelo enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing, and always loved a good story with family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Karen Woods, East Moline, and Annette Mendoza (Bill Ray), Silvis; sons, Angelo "Duly" Mendoza (Agnes Collier), Chicago, IL, and James "Jim" Mendoza, East Moline; grandchildren, Kia Mendoza, Trent Mendoza, Aaron Woods, Anissa Woods, and Mason Maynard; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josephine Morales, Agnes Hillman, Frances Herrera, Lupe Martinez, Mary Louisa Mendoza; brothers, Joe Mendoza, Phillip Mendoza; grandson Michael Mendoza.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family.
