Private graveside services for Anna Mae Keenan, 94, of Silvis, formerly of Arizona, will be Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Mrs. Keenan died Friday, September 14, 2012 at Hope Creek Health Care Center, East Moline. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Anna Mae Culley was born May 1, 1918 in Silvis, IL, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Austin Culley. She graduated from United Township High School in 1935 and from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1941 and was stationed at Camp Croft, SC where she met her future husband, John Keenan. They were married January 28, 1942 in Greenwood, SC. Her husband was a career officer in the U.S. Army and she traveled with him to numerous military assignments in the U.S. and Japan. Upon his retirement in 1959, they settled in Tucson, AZ, where she continued to live following his death in 1962. She continued her education and career receiving a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona and her Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Colorado. From 1969 until her retirement in 1980, she was on faculty at the University of Arizona College of Nursing. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Fred Culley, Sarah E. "Essie" Freebern, Wilfred "Swede" Culley, Robert James "Bell" Culley, and and infant sister, Mabel Culley.
