Funeral services for Anne G. Allen, 95, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Friday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 6:30 pm. Anne died Monday, August 22, 2016, at her home. Anne Spurgetis was born January 10, 1921, in Bridgeport, NE, the daughter of George and Katherine Birles Spurgetis, recent immigrants from Greece. She married Richard "Chuck" Allen May 6, 1945, in Moline. He died October 28, 1966. She had worked at the Rock Island Farmall Plant during WWII and retired from the Rock Island Post Office in 1983. When asked about death she said "The best thrilling moment will be to meet Jesus, to see all her loved ones in heaven, and not to wear hearing aids anymore!" Anne lived for her children and grandchildren. She loved reading the Holy Bible nearly every day. On her 75th birthday her children gave her a surprise birthday party and her gift was a trip to Greece. She took her sister Jennie along on the trip and they had a wonderful time especially since they spoke Greek. Survivors include her daughter, Debi Allen, Moline; sons, Ray (Connie) Allen, Le Claire, IA, and Douglas (Kerry) Allen, Viroqua, WI; step daughter, Trudy Gaffey, Decorah, IA; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Roxanne) Spurgetis, Moline, and Socrates "Soc" Spurgetis, East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jennie Karman; brothers, Gust and Tom Spurgetis. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island.
