Anne C.
Brooks
November 22, 1918 – December 29, 2010
Anne C. Brooks, 92, of East Moline died Wednesday, December 29th at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, December 31, 2010, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, East Moline, where she was a member. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Anne's Church or to the Father Cleary Endowment Fund for Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy. The former Anne Masschelin was born on November 22, 1918 in East Moline. She was the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Vermeulen) Masschelin. She married Kenneth Brooks in French Lick, Indiana, in 1942. Anne graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Rock Island in 1939 and dedicated 70 years of her life to the nursing profession. She was one of the first licensed nurse practitioners in the state of Illinois. She was the supervising nurse of the maternity ward at the former Lutheran Hospital in Moline for many years and was also the office nurse for Doctors Hansen, Tomlin, and Brasel. She later did private home care nursing and finished her career as a nurse at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island. Anne enjoyed doing things to help others all her life. She liked to spend time crocheting and watching the Cubs, and got to see her first game at Wrigley Field two years ago. She is survived by her sons (spouses), Ken (Barb), East Moline, Jack (Mary Lou), Moline, and Mark, East Moline; sisters, Mary Ann Bartholomew (Bart) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Elaine Christenson of Linesville, Pennsylvania. She was very proud of her 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1974, and brothers Elmer, Albert, and Junior. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her dear friends and neighbors Gudie and Steve Terronez.
