Anthony J. Stopoulos, 81, Moline, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 7PM. Memorials may be made to Assumption Church, where he was a member. Tony was born on July 11, 1933 in Moline, the son of John and Catherine (Kachevas) Stopoulos. He served in the US Air Force, being stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. While in the service his father passed away and Tony returned home to help raise his siblings and care for his mother. He married Joan Vinzant on December 10, 1966 at Assumption Church. He had worked for United Airlines, owned and operated laundromats and retired as a contract specialist from the Rock Island Arsenal. Survivors include his wife Joan, sons, William (Dana) Stopoulos, Bellingham, WA and John (Marybeth) Stopoulos, East Moline, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and siblings, Lee Stopoulos, Rockford, Jim Stopoulos, LeClaire, IA and Christine Miller, Naples, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven and brother, Peter.
