Obituary

Funeral services for Archie Frye, 94, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Monday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Frye died Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Archie was born September 3, 1922, in Melcher, IA, the son of Archie William and Agnes Weir Frye. Shortly after Archie's birth his father died and his uncle Thomas Frye raised Archie as his own. He was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. He married Apryle Fisher May 31, 1947, in Manchester, IA. She died July 30, 1999. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII, he served in Okinawa, Japan and Guam campaign. He had also been present at the WWII Surrender Ceremonies in Yokohama, Japan. He served in the Korean Conflict, being stationed in Quantico VA, where he trained young officers. After leaving the service, one of Archie's first jobs was teaching high school biology and history at Wilton Junction High School, Wilton, IA, where he was also the head football, basketball and baseball coach. He retired from Pfizer Labs, after 31 years of service. Survivors include his son, Thomas Frye, East Moline; grandchildren, Jessica (Marshall) Emerson, Erin (Matt) Lind, Gabe Frye, Jeremiah (Michelle) Frye, Zach Frye, Joshua (Sarah) Frye, and Kyler Frye; great grandchildren, Xavier, Cale, Jacob, Taylor, Lucas, Apryle, Ava, McKenna, and Ezra. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, wife, son, William Robert Frye, and sister, Drucilla. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Toys for Tots or Children's Cancer Research Fund. The Frye family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Genesis Hospital, Silvis, and Trinity, Rock Island, Park Vista, Illini Restorative Care Center, Hope Creek Care Center, and Trinity Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
