Obituary

Arlene J. Kendall, 80, of East Moline, died April 11, 2005 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, IL. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. A celebration of life service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, where Arlene was an active member. Memorials may be made to her church or to the Alzheimer's Association. Arlene was born February 21, 1925 in Mercer County, IL, the daughter of Martin and Minnie Gustafson Johnson. She attended Aledo schools and Moline Business College. Arlene married Harold Kendall September 25, 1949 in Aledo. Arlene was employed as a bookkeeper by Dean Business Service and as an accounting clerk by Deere & Company. Her greatest joys were surrounding her family with love, being a homemaker and serving delicious dinners. Arlene was also an expert seamstress, having made her own wedding gown and many outfits for her children and grandchildren. Motor home trips with grandchildren and winters in Florida were among her treasured memories. The family is grateful for the professional and loving care given by the staff of Oak Glen Home, Linda Cheek of Pathway Hospice, and others who cared for Arlene. She always responded in appreciation with her bright blue eyes and loving smile. Survivors (and spouses) include her husband Harold; son Paul (Lynne) Kendall, East Moline; daughter Karen (Jamie) Slater, Largo, FL; grandchildren Jenifer (Matthew) McGowan, Bryan (Lisa) Kendall, Katrina Slater, Christopher Kendall and James Slater; great grandchild Zachary McGowan; brothers Merle (Bette) Johnson, Aledo, and Maurice (Mary) Johnson, Wichita, KS; sisters Marena Swenson, Chicago, Anita Johnson, Durham, NC, and Ina Aplington, Peoria, IL. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Donald Johnson, Geneseo, and Rollin Johnson, Aledo. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com.
