Funeral services for Arthur E. Heene, 83, Silvis, are 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where the East Moline American Legion will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, were a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Animal Aid Humane Society, Moline, or to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Silvis. Mr. Heene died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Art was born June 20, 1921, in Kewanee, the son of Eugene and Prudence Vyncke Heene. He married Mary Krack, Nov. 29, 1947, in Moline. He worked 28 years at Fairbanks Morse and later retired in 1983 from UTHS maintenance at North and South Campus and Soule Bowl. He was a member of the church, East Moline American Legion Post 227, Golf Mohr Golf Course, Hampton and Hawthorne Ridge in Aledo. Arthur served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and spent two years in the South Pacific. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandsons, Ryne, Nicholas and Jacob. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lynn Heene, Austin, Texas, and Kevin and Patricia Heene, San Diego, Calif.; three grandsons; a sister, Helen Machu, Silvis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins and many special friends.
