Obituary

Funeral services for Arthur L. "Moose" Mihalopoulos, 79, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:30 AM Monday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Masonic Service will be held at 4:00PM and a Trisagion (Prayer) Service will be held at 6:30PM. Mr. Mihalopoulos died Friday, January 13, 2006, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, or the Illinois Masonic Children's Home Endowment Fund. Moose was born February 22, 1926, in Moline, IL, the son of Anastasios and Georgia (Vasilopoulos) Mihalopoulos. He married Rita Andritsos, November 13, 1949. She died November 21, 1995. He is a graduate of United Township High School and Black Hawk College. He had served in the Army during WWII. During his tour of duty he received the Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon W/1 Bronze Battle Star, 2 Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal. He had been a police officer for the East Moline Police Department, retiring as a Captain, after 20 years of service. He had also worked for United Township High School for over 34 years, where he had worked as a bus driver and custodian. He had been a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Illinois, Doric Lodge No. 319, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Moline, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2056, and life member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Thomas Kouris of Moline, IL, Helen and Michael Haney of East Moline, IL, Yvonne and Costas Constantinou of Davenport, IA, Anne and Donald Driscoll of Antioch, CA; grandchildren, Constantine, Karisa, Elizabeth, Nicholas, John, Louie, Effie, Penny, Vanessa, and Arthur "Little Moose"; sister, Eugenia "Evelyn" Rackis of Maryland.
