Barry J. Verner, 58, of Moline, IL, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 24, 2006 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be Noon, Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family. Barry was born March 8, 1948 in McKeesport, PA, the son of Herbert and Freda (Bornyas) Verner. He married Maureen Verner, July 30, 1992 in Reno, NV. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After he returned from Vietnam he worked as a Davenport Firefighter. He later worked for John Deere Davenport Works, for nearly 29 years. He was a member of Riverside Methodist Church, Moline, IL. He was a great father and a loving husband. He enjoyed walking with his wife in parks and along the rivers. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. His favorite fishing spot was "Lake Verner". He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler Fan. Survivors include: his wife, Maureen Verner of Moline, IL; sons, Brian Verner of Davenport, IA, Jeff Verner of Davenport, IA; step-daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Blumenstein of Milan, IL; stepson and daughter-in-law, D.J. and Carey Frank of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren, Lee Verner, Bryan Blumenstein, and Elizabeth Frank; sister and brother-in-law, Pat Scott-Baker and John Baker of Indiana, PA, Linda Fieck of McKeesport, PA; brother, Richard Verner of East Pittsburgh, PA; many nieces and nephews.
