Funeral services for Benedict A "Ben" Zmuda, 76, East Moline are 10 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be read at 7:30 PM. Ben died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Memorials may be made to the Rev. John J. Dunne Memorial Endowment at St. Mary's Church or to the East Moline Public Library. Ben was born April 10, 1929 in Rock Island, the son of Joseph and Helen Zmuda. He married Jeannine Garrett, October 10, 1953 in East Moline. Mr. Zmuda graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Architectural Engineering. He retired in 1984 as Quality Assurance Manager from John Deere Harvester, East Moline. Ben loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. After retirement he gave of himself to the community. He helped with the extension of the bike path to Hampton, IL and served on the Great River Trail. While serving as chairman of the East Moline Park Board, he was instrumental in the building of Empire Park and Millennium Park. Playing rolle bolle, cribbage and woodworking were a few of his hobbies. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeannine, children and spouses; Tom and Lisa Zmuda, East Moline, Sue and Brian Breiby, Sherrard, Diane and Gene Haguewood, Des Moines, IA, Karen and Jay Abrams, Glencoe, IL and Trish and Bob Lefere, Jackson, MI, grandchildren; Eric, Katie, John, Joe, Nate, Alix, Briana, Nick, Jason, Charlie, Linsey, Jen, Ben and Sara, a sister Bernice Foley, Davenport and brothers; Joseph, East Moline, Edward and Walter, both of Moline.
