"Today you will be with me in heaven." Luke 23:43 The Lord called Bernetta I. Schreiner, 88, to her heavenly home Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Mrs. Schreiner was a long-time resident of East Moline and most recently resided at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Monday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater IL Chapter. Bernetta Irene Schneider was born in Mt. Carroll, IL to Fred and Olive Hoover Schneider April 30, 1924. She was a third and fourth generation American as her grandparents and great-grandparents immigrated from Germany and Ireland settling in Carroll County, IL. She grew up on her family's farm along with her sister, Frances (Lawrence) Shiley and brother, Maynard (Luverta) Schneider who preceded her in death. She graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1942. Bernetta was a war bride and traveled by train to California to marry her high school sweetheart, Orval C. Schreiner, of Chadwick, IL during World War II in Marysville, CA January 22, 1943. He died April 12, 1996. Her farm roots included taking care of the home, cooking, feeding farm workers, and laundry. After the war the couple moved to East Moline where they raised their family and lived together for over 50 years. Her adulthood reflected her early lifestyle, taking care of home, husband and children, and feeding family and friends as if we were farm workers! In many ways she was a typical 1950s Mom, home preparing lunches when we walked home from grade school, preparing after school snacks, and dinner was always ready by 5:30. She was always there for our Dad and us; we were her interests, hobbies, and activities. Mom and Dad always enjoyed dancing, and were frequently at the Col Ballroom and other places to dance with their friends. Mom's enjoyment of music continued throughout her life. She liked the big bands, Guy Lombardo, Mitch Miller, Lawrence Welk, and other music of that era Andy Williams, Perry Como, and Dean Martin, Play the right music and you would find her humming, singing and dancing along. Mr. and Mrs. Schreiner raised three children: daughters, Cynthia (Gordon) Cornelius, Hampton, Kimberly (Robert) Lazenby, Moline, and son, David (Mary) Schreiner, Moline; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Richard) Fontaine, Jeffrey (Lucero Diaz), Cornelius, Robert Lazenby III, Thomas Lazenby, Matthew (Taylor) Berg, and Kael Schreiner; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Owen Fontaine, Miguel, Emanuel, and Elisa Cornelius, Brodie and Mattix Berg. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and great-grandson, Mateo Cornelius. Our family would like to thank our special friend, Joyce Alba of Orion, and the Deacons of First Presbyterian Church for many years of friendship and memories. Mrs. Schreiner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Moline since 1951 where she belonged to the Ruth Circle, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed helping with the coffee hour.
