Obituary

Funeral services for Bernice Kitson, 92, formerly of Moline, are 10 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Gospel Assembly Church, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-8 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to her church, where she had been a very active member. Mrs. Kitson died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Bernice Curry was born, March 30, 1913 in Hardin County, KY, the daughter of Drew and Bertha (Boston) Curry. She married Dewey Ennis with whom she had her two children, he preceded her in death. She married George Hartman, who preceded her in death. She married William "Everett" Kitson who died earlier this year. Bernice had worked in the commissary at the former International Harvester Farmall in Rock Island. Mrs. Kitson accepted the Lord very early in her life and has been a faithful member of Gospel Assemby Church in Moline for many years. She served as an usherette, nursery director, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and sang in the church choir until she was well into her seventies. She was lovingly known as Nana not only by her grandchildren but by other children as well. She often had children in her home and enjoyed playing a good game of checkers. Mrs. Kitson's greatest joy was to cook a big meal and invite all of her family to sit around her dining room table together to visit, be with one another, and pray together. No one ever turned down an invite to one of Nana's Southern home-cooked meals. Her love of family, her kind words of encouragement, and her faithful, fervent prayers will be greatly missed. Survivors include; daughter Roberta Breckling, Silvis, son Ronald Ennis, Las Vegas, NV, six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, sister Beulah Kipping, Moline and brothers James Curry, Horse Cave, KY and Clinton Curry, Davenport. Grandchildren, Desiree Ennis and Kari Copeland, sisters Nora Johnson and Frances Green and brothers Grady Curry and Wayne Curry precede her in death.
