Bernice E. Porter, 90, East Moline, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday, November 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Mission Church, Hampton. A family rosary will be said prior to the Mass. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hampton, Hope Creek or to the VA. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Bernice DeVilder was born on October 21, 1924 in Moline, the daughter of Bruno and Clara (DeVolder) DeVilder. She served as a Seaman in the US Navy during WWII. She married James H. Porter Jr. in 1948. He died on April 10, 2007. She had worked at Seifert Clothing in Rock Island and later owned and operated Flowerama at North Park Mall until 1985. Bernice enjoyed playing golf, gardening and all animals. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling and boating. Her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her great grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Richard (Terri) Porter, Port Byron and Christine (Kevin) Goodson, Port Byron, seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a brother Eugene (Nancy) DeVilder, East Moline. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Irene Dopler.
