Obituary

Bertha M. (Kraklow) Lemkau, 90, of Geneseo, formerly of East Moline, slipped peacefully away from her family and into the arms of Jesus, Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, August 12, 2013, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Services will be officiated by Pastor Matt Temple. She will be laid to rest on Arsenal Island, Rock Island. Luncheon to follow at 3:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Bertha Marie Cooke was born October 17, 1922 in Roseville, IL, the daughter of Arthur A. and Bertha M. (Sampson) Cooke. Bertha was a 1939 graduate of East Moline High School. She married G. Dale Kraklow October 19, 1941 in East Moline. During 29 years of marriage, Mr. & Mrs. Kraklow raised nine children. Mr. Kraklow passed away October 19, 1970. Bertha later married Richard "Mickey" Lemkau in 1982. Mr. Lemkau passed away in 1989. Bertha was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. She enjoyed birds, planting flowers, eagle watching at the river, and loved to travel. She also enjoyed fishing, watching the Cubs, and rock hunting, especially for agates. But above all else, she loved her family the most. Survivors include her children, Alice (Doug) Baze, Milan, Franny Miller, Alabama, Paula Cooke, New Zealand, Mary (Mike) Bradley, Arizona, Frank (Donna) Kraklow, East Moline, Carol (Gary) Krantz, Hillsdale, James (Shelly) Kraklow, Moline, June (Rusty) Fulton, Milan, Amy (Mike) McConley, Wisconsin; stepson, Fred (Dixie) Lemkau, Minnesota; grandchildren, Johnny (Mary), Tommy (Shelia), Trixi (Andy), Jeanette, Jason, Melani, Anna (Joseph), Karen (Craig), Luke, Jessica (engaged to Patrick), Hollie (engaged to Jermal), Leah (Jimmy), Katy (Evan), Jimmy, Paul, Adam (Taylor); several step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, with one great grandchild and one great-great grandchild on the way; sister, Anna May Petrick, and sister-in-law, Betty Cooke. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; stepson, Robert; grandson, Tommy; great grandson, Joshua; siblings, Jerry, John, Joy, Jean, Lillian, Rosa, and Dorothy.
