Funeral services for Bessie Marie Cass, 97, of Glen Ellyn, IL, formerly of Colona, IL, will be 11:15AM Tuesday, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Mrs. Cass died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Sunrise Senior Living, Glen Ellyn. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home, Valparaiso, IN or Shepherds Home, Union Grove, WI. Bessie Larson was born September 22, 1911 in Colona, the oldest of five children of Vern and Elizabeth (Collis) Larson. She married George I. Cass February 25, 1930 in Carbon Cliff, IL. Bessie and George loved attending their small country church, Faith Baptist, on Wolf Road near Geneseo, IL. In their earlier years, she and her husband farmed and raised livestock. She had worked at the former Lutheran Hospital, Moline and Illini Hospital, Silvis, IL. Bess was constantly canning fruits and vegetables during their season. She was well known for her pies. As an artist she enjoyed painting rural scenes. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jean and Jack Morgan, Glen Ellyn, son and daughter-in-law, Robert Dale and Patricia Cass of Grand Rapids, MI; eight grandchildren; Carolyn Bissell of Escanaba, MI; Marlene Hoyt of DeWitt, MI; Brenda Cass of Kentwood, MI; Tom Cass of White Cloud MI; Terri Korfage of Walker, MI, Melissa Anderson of Aurora, IL; Mark Morgan of Murrieta, CA; Shauna Watkins of Bolingbrook, IL; and thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
