Funeral services for Betty Coverdill, 79, East Moline, are 10 AM Wednesday at Hope United Church of Christ, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 3-6:30PM Tuesday (today) at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ. Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on January 17, 2011 at her home. Betty Lewis was born June 15, 1931 in Moline, the daughter of Carey and Pearl (Peterson) Lewis. She married Bob Coverdill on October 18, 1947 in East Moline. He died on November 25, 2008. Betty retired from the former Eagle Signal Company, where she had served as a union steward. Betty and her husband ran Camp Hauberg from 1988 until 1991. She was devoted to her family, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Hatters Society. Survivors include her children and spouses; Cheryl and Dennis Johnson, Sherrard, IL, Kenneth and Sherry Coverdill, Coal Valley, Linda and Edward Claeys, East Moline, Carey and Candace Coverdill, East Moline and Brock and Ruth Coverdill, Hillsdale, IL, a daughter-in-law Debra Coverdill, Hampton, twenty-two grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a sister Marilyn Baker of Avon Park, FL and a brother Richard Lewis, Omaha, NE. She is preceded in death by her husband, her son Bob Jr., and her brother Donald Lewis.
