Obituary

Funeral services for Betty A. Dietz, 83, of Silvis, IL, will be 11:00AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mrs. Dietz died Sunday, September 7, 2014, at her home. Betty Ann Usher was born Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1930, in Maquoketa, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Edna Redinger Usher. She married Junior A. "Percy" Dietz November 3, 1951, in Maquoketa. He died October 8, 1995. Betty had been an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Silvis, for over 35 years, where she had held most offices including Past Madam President. She worked diligently for many charities, but her top 3 were: the Kidney Fund, American Heart Association, and Special Olympics. She had been active in the Boy and Girl Scouts of America and local 4-H Clubs. She loved playing "in the dirt" spending time in her vegetable and flower garden. At one time in her life she had worked as a cake decorator, decorating cakes for weddings, showers, and birthdays. She enjoyed cooking and making her fudge at Christmas. She also enjoyed puzzles, cards, mysteries, "who done it" mystery movies, board games, especially Aggravation, and trips to the boat! Survivors include her daughters, Sally (Rodney) Britton, East Moline, and Patty Gilbert, East Moline; sons, Roger (Lyn) Dietz, Jacksonville, IL, and Percy (Kali) Dietz III, East Peoria, IL; grandchildren , John (Jessica) Dietz Rock Island, IL, Ben (Jessica) Dietz, Wilmington, IL, Billy Gilbert, Bettendorf, IA, Beth (Jeff) Hopkins , Jacksonville, IL, Becky (Michael) Mahoney, Alexander, IL,and Brett (Kerry) Leach, Modesto, IL: great grandchildren, Owen, Evan, Austin, Dylan,and Ryan Dietz, Trey and Lanie Hopkins, Quinlan, Wyatt, Ainsley, and Ethan Mahoney; and Audrey Gilbert; sister, Hazel Schmaltz, Parma, OH; brother, Lincoln (Beverly) Usher, Delmar, IA. She is preceded in death by her, parents; husband, sisters, Nina Drumm, Erma Von Roden, and Hulda Miller; brothers, Junior Usher and Louis Usher.
