Obituary

Betty Lou Fisher passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at her home in East Moline, IL. She was 88. Betty was born in Millersburg on March 30, 1937, to the late Roy and Ruth (Stevenson) Stead of Aledo, IL. She graduated from Aledo High School in 1956, where she was a two-sport athlete, cheerleader, chorister, and an officer of the Student Council.

Betty married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Fisher, on November 23, 1958. They celebrated 71 years together before Bob passed away in 2022. They began their life together in Aledo, eventually moving to East Moline and wintering in Bartow, FL.

Family was at the heart of everything Betty loved, from baking for school events and birthday parties to cheering on her children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren in all of their activities, to hosting amazing parties for her family and friends. If there were an event, celebration, or holiday for someone Betty cared about, she would be the first to make them something special or host their celebration. In her free time, Betty also enjoyed being outdoors, antiquing and refinishing her finds, trying new recipes, knitting, and coloring.

Betty spent her career working as an aide in the Special Education department for the East Moline School District, where she continued her love of sports by coaching her students in the Special Olympics. Witnessing her compassion and commitment to these students led her daughter to honor her legacy with a career supporting people with disabilities.

Betty is survived by her son Scott Fisher (Melinda) of Pea Ridge, AR; daughter Denise Fisher (David Gebhardt) of Chicago, IL., daughter-in-law Rhonda (Perry Fisher) of Broken Arrow, OK, her grandchildren Patrick (Cassidy), Tyler (Leah), Scotty (Jenny), and six great-grandchildren, Landon, Presley, Fox, Aspen, Harper, and Carter, her sister Nancy Smidsang of Wheaton, IL, and her sister-in-law Iseko Stead of Hawaii.

Along with her parents, including her stepmother, Ruth (Ketzle) Stead, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Fisher; her son, Perry Fisher; her sisters, Dorothy Wendel and Elly Rohrbach; and her brother, Wayne Stead.
