Betty J. Hockaday 87, Moline, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Betty Dennis was born on January 23, 1927 on a farm in Macon County, MO, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Spicer) Dennis. She married Henry C. Hockaday on August 3, 1946 in Macon County. Henry died January 1, 1999. Betty had worked as a cook at Augustana College, Rock Island. She enjoyed gardening and growing roses. Betty had many great memories of growing up on the family farm, and loved her family.
Survivors include her children, Janet (James) Barber, Dysart, IA, Frank (Debbie) Hockaday, Moline, Janie Hockaday, Moline, Patty (Bob) Kussman, East Moline, Billy Hockaday, East Moline, Jerry (Teresa) Hockaday, East Moline, Terry (Sherri) Hockaday, Port Byron, Kenneth (Kathy) Hockaday, Port Byron and Tammy Hockaday, Granite City, IL, 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter, and nieces Margie (Earl) Esparza, Rock Island and Dixie Shelbina, MO.
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Helen Forman, sons Dennis and Henry Jr., and a grandson.
