Funeral services for William E. Jones "Jonesey", 80, East Moline, are 10 AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Bill died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. He was born July 5, 1929 in Adair, IL, the son of Everett and Rosa (Tucker) Jones. Jonesey retired from the Rock Island Arsenal. He was the ultimate Chicago Cubs Fan. Sports were an integral part of his life from playing in the Minor Leagues to running the American Legion Baseball program. He was a long time supporter of Untied Township High School's Athletics and had once received an award "Most Loyal Fan". He was often referred to as Mr. Baseball. He served in the US Navy, was a member of the East Moline American Legion and the QC Angel's Ball Association, and enjoyed golf. Survivors include his daughters; Pamela Jones, East Moline and Tammy (Steven) Sloan, Silvis, grandchildren; Tiffany DeLaere and Sean Sloan and great grandchildren, Jessica and Alex DeLaere.
