Funeral services for Billy B. Pennington, 80, Sugar Hill, Ga, are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Bill died Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Northside Forsyth Hospital, Cumming, GA. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Bill was born January 19, 1931 in East Moline, the son of William and Irene (Nickerson) Pennington. He married Marilyn Strangard February 15, 1953 in East Moline, Il. Bill served in the United States Marine Corp for 31 years receiving numerous commendations and awards, retiring as a Sergeant Major on October 1, 1980. Survivors include his wife Marilyn, children; Vickie Bowen (Overland Park, Ks), William Pennington (Johns Creek, GA), and Robert Pennington (Sugar Hill, GA), grandchildren Kara (Bowen) Brownrigg, Elizabeth, Anne, Caroline Pennington, and Heather, Grace Pennington. He is preceded in death by his parents.
