Funeral services for Bob Coverdill, 80, East Moline, are 10 AM Monday at Hope United Church of Christ, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 2-5PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Coverdill died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Hope United Church of Christ where he was a member. Bob was born April 5, 1928 in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Robert and Myrtle (Alexander) Coverdill. He retired December 1, 1984 as a supervisor from John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He married Betty Lewis on October 18, 1947 in East Moline. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Coverdill had served as badge chairman for his son's Scout Troop. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf, racket ball and softball. He also enjoyed taking trips with his wife on their Gold Wing Motorcycle and taking the travel trailer to Arizona in the winter. He managed camp Hauberg from 1988-1991. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty, children and spouses: Cheryl and Dennis Johnson of Sherrard, Kenneth and Sherry Coverdill of Coal Valley, Linda and Edward Claeys of East Moline Carey and Candice Coverdill of East Moline and Brock and Ruthie Coverdill of Hillsdale a daughter-in-law Debra Coverdill of Hampton, 22 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a sister Dorothy Byrd, East Moline. He is preceded in death by his son Bob Jr., brothers Marlin and Westly and a sister Louise Bresson.
