Bonnie Lingner, 76, of East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, February 28th at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 6, at the funeral home, with burial following in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Bonnie Jean Lingner was born in Moline, Illinois on September 18th, 1946, the oldest child of Gustave and Grace (Kelly) Lingner. Her family relocated to Ankeny, Iowa, where she attended grade school, until the family moved back to East Moline in 1959. Bonnie graduated from United Township High School in 1964, where she was the first woman 'Pete the Panther' mascot in the school's history. Following graduation she received an Associates Degree from Blackhawk College and studied teaching at Illinois State University.
Bonnie's professional career began in 1974 as a teller with Community Savings & Loan in downtown East Moline. She spent 17 years working her way through various positions and eventually became the bank's Controller. Bonnie retired from United Healthcare, formerly John Deere Health Care, in 2006, after spending 15 years of service in several roles: notably as an Accountant in the Finance Department and an Administrative Assistant in Product Development.
Bonnie was a free spirit. She did things her own way and wasn't afraid to give her opinion to anyone. Whether they wanted it or not. Bonnie Loved being a Grandma, Loved her church family at Heritage Wesleyan Church in Rock Island, Loved music and going to concerts with her friends Diana and Glen, Loved to road trip with Delpha and Sharon, Loved collecting, Loved gardening, Loved traveling to Arizona to visit her brother and sister-in-law. She was fortunate to take a dream vacation to Scotland in 1997 to visit cousin Liz and her family. Some of her fondest memories were of spending summers with her siblings and cousins at the family cabin on Lake Carlos in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Left to cherish her memory is her only son, Derek Anderson, his wife Sophia, and two granddaughters, Georgia and Zoe, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by; brother, Stephen Lingner (Ann), Sun City, AZ; sister, Debbie Lingner, Springfield; Brother-in-law, Jack Trent, Moline; 14 Nieces and Nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; special cousins, Liz McBride (Bob), Dumfrees, Scotland, Linda Johnson, Colorado Springs, CO, and Robert "Butch" Zippay (Shannon), Semora, NC; lifelong friends; Diana Camp, Ft. Meyers, FL and Sharon Webb, East Moline; and special Sister-in-law; Tou Meksavanh, Beaverton, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kathy Trent.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis, who cared for Bonnie through her difficult transition. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of OSF Healthcare's Neurology Department in Peoria, for the care provided after Bonnie's stroke in September 2020. A special thank you to the nurses from Genesis Hospice for helping make Bonnie's final voyage home more comfortable. We are comforted knowing that Mom is reunited with her parents and sister, but most importantly her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
