Bonnie Jean Simpkins Thomas, 86, Indianapolis, formerly of Moline, Illinois, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, October 29, 2014 at IU Health West Hospital, Avon, Indiana. Services are 11 am at First Presbyterian Church of East Moline, followed by interment at Rock Island National Cemetery at 2 pm, Friday, November 7. She was born May 16, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ivy (Perry) and Fay Simpkins. She married Kenneth R. Thomas September 14, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 2011. Bonnie graduated from Kinsman High School as valedictorian and received a degree in Nursing from the Ohio State University. She was employed at East Moline Schools for 19 years as school nurse. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, for 60 years where she served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, missions coordinator and sang alto in the choir. She volunteered at Christian Friendliness, Church Women United and Arrowhead Ranch. She treasured her family and enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She had great compassion for those less fortunate and gave of her time, money and efforts to help improve the lives of her fellow man. Up until her death Bonnie had a keen interest in sports (especially her beloved Buckeyes, also the Bears and more recently the Colts) and in world events. Survivors include her sons Steven, Daly City, California, Mark (Vicki), Houston, Texas, Pat (Debra), San Diego, California and daughter Barbara (Michael) Homoya, Brownsburg, Indiana; grandchildren Amy Thomas Bash (Brett), Aaron (Andrea) and Wesley Homoya, Eva, Vivian, Hanah, Dylan and Rachel Thomas; great-grandchildren Emma Thomas and Zane Thomas Bash; brother-in-law Loren Thomas (Luella) and many nieces, nephews, close friends and faithful caregivers. Besides her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her dear sister Ruth Marsh and a grandchild, Kenneth Homoya.
