Bruce G. Williams, 81, East Moline, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the VA Hospital, Iowa City, IA. A memorial gathering will be held from 12 Noon until 2PM on Tuesday December 2, 2014, at the East Moline American Legion. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family. Bruce was born on March 8, 1933 in Canton, IL, the son of Leslie and Betty (Whitney) Williams. He married Darlene Jones on June 18, 1955 in Rock Island. He worked as a commercial painter for the painters union and was also a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his brother and nephews, golfing, fishing and even made his own fishing nets. He served with distinction in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife Darlene, children, Diane Guy, Garland, TX, Gordon Williams, East Moline, Cindy Hannon, Yuma, AZ, Gregory Williams, Kewanee, IL, Kay Williams, Burnsville, MN and Paul Williams, East Moline, 12 grandchildren including, Michael Mettler, East Moline, Nicole Manuel, Ft. Mitchell, AL and Lee Williams, Hampton, 12 great-grandchildren, his brother Paul S. Williams, Port Byron and numerous nieces and nephews.
