Bulah Lee "Granny" McDanel, 89, formerly of Green Rock, died Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities Bettendorf, IA after a short courageous battle with cancer. Visitation for family and close friends is 5-7 PM (today) Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Granny will be transported to Brown's Funeral Home, Clinton, KY for additional visitation and services, her final resting-place will be in Zion Cemetery, Clinton. Granny was born April 25, 1916 in Hickman County, KY the daughter of John and Lula (Gifford Sons) Jackson. She married William A. McDanel, June 3, 1933 in Clinton. He preceded her in death, January 11, 1968. She opened her home and heart to all. She not only raised her own 5 children; she helped raise her oldest son's six children as well. Many of her children's friends kept in touch and visited her often throughout the years. Granny loved saving photographs and remembrances, sending well-decorated greeting cards for special occasions, piecing quilts, having family visits that included the pets, feeding the birds and squirrels, lending a helping hand and she took great pride in always treating everybody nicely. Granny truly loved her family and friends, animals, flowers, country roads, poems, music, stamp collecting, all God's people and she always thought each of the littlest babies was the smartest and sweetest. She especially enjoyed her birthday and holiday family dinners. She loved and trusted her Lord dearly. Survivors left to cherish her memory are sons Leon and George (Judy) McDanel, and daughters Rose Winchester and Linda McDanel, all of Colona, daughter-in-law Juanita McDanel, Loganville, GA, sisters Pauline Lyman, Clinton, Lily Rushing, Cairo, IL, and Dorothy Ireland, East Alton, IL, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her husband, daughter, Oma Christine McDanel, Son David McDanel, 2 daughters-in-law, a grandson, a granddaughter, 6 sisters and 2 brother precede her in death. Granny's family would like to thank all of the angels who cared for her during her stay at the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home. Special appreciation is given to Melissa McDanel, Beacon of Hope Hospice of Davenport, IA, for her untiring support, love and devotion.
