Funeral services for Burl Louis "Pete" Deem Jr., 84, of Colona, IL, will be 11:30AM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Deem died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Avonlea Cottage of the Quad Cities, Milan, IL. Memorials may be made to Colona American Legion Post 1233. Burl was born June 27, 1928 in Colona, IL, the son of Burl and Margaret Skinner Deem Sr. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed Ft. Leonard Wood in St. Robert, MO. He married Barbara Bradley February 9, 1952 in Moline, IL. He had worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for 41 years from the Colona Post Office, retiring December 31, 1989. He had been a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association where he had been the Henry County RLCA Secretary for 18 years and President of the 19th District for 2 years. He traveled all over the United States attending all of state and national the conventions. He belonged to Duck's Unlimited and the American Legion Post 1233, Colona. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, wood working and had been a Chicago Cubs Fan. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Deem, Colona; daughters, Pamela (Gary) Hast, Lincoln, IL, Debra (David) Deem, East Moline, and Barbara Lynn (Terry) Roudebush, Chicago, IL; son, Gilbert (Karen) Deem, East Moline, grandchildren, Nathan Knudtzon, Kendra (Andrew) Walthers, Kathryn Knudtzon, Mollie Deem (Lance Hackwith), Jennifer Deem, Bradley (Emilia) Deem, Kayla and Jacob Deem; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Eridani Walthers, and Kristinia Deem; sisters, Madeline Harkey, Silvis, IL, and Ferne ( Dennis) Lindell, Geneseo; brother, John (Patricia) Deem, Colona.
