IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Burnett "Burnie"
Louis Sutter
April 7, 1921 – January 30, 2022
BURNETT LOUIS SUTTER
FRISCO, TX – Burnett "Burnie" Louis Sutter, 100, of Frisco, Tx, formerly of 832 53 rd Street, Moline, Illinois passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side, at 9:35 am Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Saddlebrook Memory Care in Frisco, Tx.
Born April 7, 1921 to Louis Harry Sutter and Oszetta Bernice Reynolds Sutter in Drury Township, Illinois. He married Rozetta May Royster on March 19, 1943 in Canton, Missouri and 3 days later was inducted into the United States Army. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2006.
He is survived by his brother, Keith Sutter, 97, of Muscatine, Iowa and his daughter Sandra Daun Richards and her husband William Ross Richards both of Frisco, Texas. In addition, surviving are three grandchildren, Kimberly K. Nelon of Dallas, Tx; Barry S. (Karen) Richards of Plano Tx.; and Kristin M. Richards of Flower Mound TX. He is survived by eight great grandchildren, all of Texas, who adored him, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was in business with his brother-in-law operating tire stores as "Kenny'sTires" for many years in East Moline and Rock Island, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a machine gunnery sergeant landing on Utah Beach in June, 1944. Among many other awards, he was awarded the French Legion Medal of Honor.
He was an active and lifelong member of Elim Covenant Church in Moline, Illinois. Almost every evening his greatest joy was taking his boat out on the Mississippi River to go fishing with his wife and daughter, and then inviting all his neighbors to big "fish fries" in his backyard. He was well known for his beautiful rose gardens, which neighbors far and wide would love to come visit.
For the last 35 years, he never missed the yearly reunion of his beloved 90 th Infantry Division, to reminisce well into the night with all his Army war buddies, especially those from his 358 M Company, of which he was the last surviving member. They were truly the "Greatest Generation".
He will be greatly missed by many, but none more than his loving, devoted family.
Services will be held at Elim Covenant Church in Moline on Monday, February 28, 2022. There will be a reception at the Church at noon with the "Celebration of Life" to follow at 1pm and a motorcade to the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery for military burial honors.
To help honor this remarkable life, at the request of Mr. Sutter's daughter, Families of World War II Veterans is continuing a scholarship in Mr. Sutter's name. The family has requested donations to this scholarship fund that will support students' continued educations in lieu of flowers, and Families of World War II Veterans will proudly match every dollar donated in Mr. Sutter's honor.
