Obituary

Funeral services for Camiel, "Mill" VanDeKeere, 93, of East Moline, will be 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where military honors will be conducted by the East Moline American Legion Post #227. Visitation will be 4:30-7 PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30. Mr. VanDeKeere died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Camiel was born November 19, 1914 to Gustaf & Celina VanQuathem VanDeKeere in East Moline. He attended St. Mary's High School, East Moline, and graduated from the former Brown's Business College. He was employed in the family business, DeKeere's Food Market, and in July 1966 began his employment at John Deere Spreader Works, retiring from John Deere Harvester November 1, 1984. He was drafted into the U.S. Army September 25,1941 and served in the Pacific theatre. He was discharged as sergeant US Calvary, 1st division on October 21, 1945. He was a life member of St. Mary's Church, East Moline and served as an usher. He was a member of the American Legion Post 227 of East Moline. He spent his later years at Crosstown Square and Illini Restorative Care. He was an avid Notre Dame Football Fan. He is survived by his sister, Stella Almblade, East Moline and was a favorite "Dutch Uncle" to eleven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Martha DeBruyckere & Rachael Livengood. A grateful thanks to the wonderful staff at Illini Restorative Care and especially to his nieces who were there to help, Mary Jane Duke, Marty Gerlach and Carol Mehleck.
