Graveside services for Carl E. West, 74, of Moline, IL, will be 1:30 PM Saturday, January 27, 2024, at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline.  Visitation will be 11:30 AM -1:00 PM at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Saturday, where a rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM.

Carl E. West of Moline, Illinois, 74, died on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at home with his family.  He fought a long battle filled with remarkable and unbelievable courage.

He was born December 28, 1949, at Saint Anthony in Rock Island.  He graduated Rock Island High School in 1968 and attended Scott Community College.  He worked at Bear Manufacturing and Minter Wiseman (Rock Island Tobacco), until retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal in April of 2019.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.  He was proud to be a member of the Catholic faith.

Carl married his love and best friend Sandra Woodward in 1981.  Carl's 42 years of marriage demonstrated commitment and family love.  He was blessed with two sons, Brandon (Moline, IL) and Aaron West (West Des Moines, IA).

Carl put family as the most important part of his life.  He was a loving husband and father.  We will miss him in this life until we can join him in the next.

He was preceded in death by Ruth and Louis Dusenberry (parents),  Alice and Vern Woodward (in-laws), Karen and Vito Moreschi (sister and brother-in-law), Donny West (brother), and Joyce Dusenberry (sister).

He enjoyed a few trips to Orlando, Florida and Gulf Shores, Alabama.  Some of his favorite past times were riding bike along the river paths, lounging in the pool on a noodle, and tinkering with mechanical things around the house.  He had fun TRYING to dance at local band concerts.  Carl's favorite enjoyment was playing with his loyal companion, Billy Brewster, the family Chiweenie.  He had a quick wit, at times sarcastic, and a humorous personality.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, Sacred Heart CCD, or St Pius CCD.

Special thanks to area clergy especially Father Peter, Compassus Hospice Care, and dear friends.  The most thanks to his son, Brandon, for his extraordinary care giving.
