Carol Anne (Stiegel) Howard, 68, of East Moline, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison. She succumbed after a courageous 28-year struggle with diabetes. According to her wishes, Carol's remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. East Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Aid Humane Society or Oak Hill Wildlife. Carol was born in Moline on November 29, 1936 to Winifred and John C. Stiegel. She married Benjamin W. Howard on September 24, 1955 in Rock Island. Carol was a graduate of Moline High School and Marycrest College. She taught kindergarten and elementary school for many years at Hampton Grade School, McKinley School, East Moline and Meadowland School, East Moline. She taught children's and adult Sunday school at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was a member of the King's Daughters. She was a member of the America Business Women's Association while teaching. She was also trained in handwriting analysis. Carol devoted her life to caring for her family, students, many pets, and wildlife. She wrote poetry and humor. She touched many lives on a daily basis and will be sorely missed. Survivors include her husband of 49 years Benjamin, daughters Troi McCormick, Stephanie (Alan Heald) Howard, and Monica (Robert Jr.) Ausdal, all of the Quad Cities; son Randy Howard, Lathrop, MO; six grandchildren; and a sister Donna Periolat, San Carlos, CA.
