Funeral services for Caroline Montez, 93, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00PM. Mrs. Montez died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Unity Point Health, Rock Island, surrounded by her family. Memorials may be made for masses or to Alternatives for Older Adults. Caroline Valle was born August 28, 1919 in East Moline, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Delfina Hernandez Valle, a lifelong resident of the East Moline/Moline area. She graduated from United Township High School in 1938. She married Jess M. Montez October 29, 1939 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. He died December 25, 2006. She was a homemaker until the 1970's. In 1974 she obtained her drivers license and she was on the move. She worked at the rectory of St. Anne, East Moline, as housekeeper for Father Halin, Father Heintz, and Father O'Conner; retiring in the 1980's. Caroline enjoyed travel with her husband in her later years, traveling across the United States by train. From Florida, California, Mexico, to Las Vegas (their favorite); they took their children and grandchildren at one time or another. Most recently, once a month, she enjoyed a "ladies night" with a great group of women for dinner and casino night. Caroline shared with her children and grandchildren her life, history, and love of God. We will hold these memories dear to us. Both Carol and her husband were "Diehard Cub fans!" Survivors include her daughters, Marina Castel, Davenport, IA, Monica McColley, Moline, Martha Haire, Bettendorf, IA, Louise (Perry) Ramirez, Silvis, and Marcy Montez, Moline; sons, Alfred (Bahn) Montez, Oswego, IL, Louie (Rosemary) Montez, Rock Island, Steve (Carla) Montez, Peoria, IL, Benny (Margaret) Montez, Champaign, IL, and Jerome (Norma) Montez, East Moline; daughter-in-law, Pam Montez, Bettendorf; son-in-law, Mac Chavez, East Moline; 50 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Beatrice (Lupe) Cruz, Silvis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Margarita) Montez, Silvis; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Lenore Chavez, son Daniel Montez, great-grandsons, Tommy Halligan, Mason Montez and Kyvan Chavez, sons-in-law, Michael Olvera and Rick Haire, sisters, Urbanna Chavez, Antonia Herrera, Lucy Aldape, Erlinda Belman, and Victoria Zaragoza, brothers, Eli, Max, Frank and Joseph Valle. The family would like to thank the 4th Floor Neuro Unity Point Health and Dr. Keeven for all the care and kindness during this sudden illness and stressful time. Thanks to her Ladies Night Group....
