Funeral services for Catherine E. Dokas, 89, East Moline, are 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, where she was a member. Catherine died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf. She was born August 9, 1918 in East Moline, the daughter of Edward and Ella (Furst) Vershaw. She married Peter "Tike" Dokas on October 9, 1943 in Columbus, GA. Her husband had been an East Moline Firefighter and then Fire Chief, retiring in 1975. He died on August 24, 1980. Catherine had worked on the assembly line as a toy maker at the Buddy L. Toy Company, East Moline. She was a member of St. Anne's Altar and Rosary Society, the American Legion Post 227 Ladies Auxiliary, the Lioness, and a life member of the Rock Island County 8-40 #137. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Linda Dokas, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Pete and Julie Dokas, Rapids City, IL, grandsons Paul, David, Philip and Colin, and great grandchildren; Juliana, Elizabeth, Brian and T.J.. In addition to her husband, her brothers Tom and Edward precede her in death.
