Catherine Aurelia Kinney (Wittevrongel) Stevenson, 99, formerly of East Moline, passed away on September 2, 2014 in Green Valley, Arizona. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Catherine Aurelia Kinney (Wittevrongel) Stevenson was born on Tuesday, May 18, 1915 to Francis (Frank)Mary (Grennan) Kinney in East Moline, Illinois. She was the first of nine children. In 1937, she married Marcel Albert Wittevrongel in East Moline, Illinois. They had four children whom they raised in East Moline, Springfield and Granite City, Illinois. Catherine was widowed in 1976 and lived in Granite City until retirement in 1980. She moved to Green Valley, Arizona, where she subsequently married Wallace Stevenson in 1983. Catherine worked as an educational secretary for the Granite City School District and was an active member of the Illinois Association of Educational Secretaries [IAES], serving as president for 2 years. She also served as a board director for the National Association of Educational Office Professionals [NAEOP]. In Green Valley she was an active member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. In the early 1990's, she helped to establish a court of the Catholic Daughters of America in the parish; she served as regent for several years. In retirement, Catherine became a world traveler. Catherine is survived by her four children, Cathleen Ann Hall of Woodstock, Illinois; Shelley (Mary Frances) Wittevrongel of Boulder, Colorado; James Wittevrongel of Augsburg, Germany; and Elizabeth Johnson of Chadron, Nebraska. Also surviving are 3 sisters, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Marcel Wittevrongel and Wallace Stevenson, four brothers, one sister and one grandson.
